Other:
Many people have told me I have a great reading voice, so I'm also available as a voice actress.
My theater background has allowed me to develop some fun characters voices for this too.
I was originally taught to sing by my Theater Mom since before I could talk as a toddler. I've performed in musicals and plays since I was 6, including multiple lead roles from middle school on. In middle school, I was also inspired by Disney Channel artists and started writing my own songs.
In high school, I studied Voice with James Spencer of Spencer Artist Development, sang with the advanced jazz ensemble for 4 years, as well as the advanced classical ensemble for my Senior year, and performed in multiple talent shows.
I Graduated with a Bachelor's in Music Education from CSULA in Spring 2018. I studied Voice with Dr. Susan Mohini Kane, through which I learned how to prepare and sing classical English, French, German, Italian pieces, and Opera as well. Some of my highlights from this program include singing in Chamber Singers, led by Dr. Sebastien Vallee and later, Dr. Christopher Gravis, Jazz Combos, led by Dr. James Ford, Commercial Music Ensemble, led by Ross Levinson, Music & Wellness (community outreach program), led by Dr. Susan Mohini Kane, starring in an Opera, directed by Dylan Thomas, performing in my first Recital (available on my YouTube) and finally, singing a lovely arrangement of the National Anthem by Jenny Tran with my fellow classmates at Graduation. Since 2016, I also sung with a quartet caroling company called The Music Companie, led by Pat Loeb, for 8 years.
Since Graduating with my BM, I sang solo sets at comedy shows, sang on a pop-gospel record and sang backup and lead vocals in Rory Seldon’s R&B and Funk band, Rory Seldon with InnerSession.
During Covid, I applied for the Commercial Music Masters program at CSULA and was accepted! As a Commercial Music Masters Graduate, I've learned how to sing multiple genres in Commercial Music, the basics of how to play pop, rock and jazz songs on the piano, how to use sheet music software, Logic & Pro Tools, and how to make my own musical tracks as well.
You can see me sing through my YouTube portfolio @rachelschlenz95. and get a feel for my different song styles through my SoundCloud @Rachel Schlenz.
Rachel has taught Voice & Beginning Piano to students of all ages (4 to seniors) since 2017.
She taught through San Marino Music Center in person at the Huntington location from 2017 to 2019, and online through their Mission location from 2021 to 2022, through Encore School of Music from 2019 to 2022, and through www.TakeLessons.com from 2020 to 2024.
Now, she's available to teach privately through rachelschlenz@duck.com (2023 to present).
Rachel's philosophy is to adapt the lesson to each student. Her system is to teach healthy vocal and/or healthy piano techniques first. She starts by asking what brought the student to lessons, what kind of music they're interested in, and what they would like to learn. She then incorporate their responses into the lessons. Overall, her goal for every student is to come out of lessons knowing as much as possible, so they can be as prepared as possible for their future endeavors in music.
I began exploring what else I could do in 2023. I learned that with God, there are no limits.
I'm very excited to see what He shows me next.
